Unearthing the Why Behind Triumphant Parenting

Triumphant Parenting Prayer started out of the ache of trauma. Sexual violence, emotional abandonment, mental health struggles, and the silent wounds families carry created a need for a place to heal. For four years, we prayed, learned, surrendered, and asked God to rebuild us. After those four years, God released us to provide a space for parents to navigate what they were never taught, never modeled, and never supported through.

Trauma shows up in many forms.

Running away may be a flight response rather than rebellion. Oppositional behavior may be the onset of a mental disorder rather than defiance. Compassion fatigue is a real result of young people trying to balance friendships and emotional burdens. Children often confide in peers before they learn who the safe adults are, which creates emotional distress and enmeshment.

Families are navigating storms without tools. Children are carrying feelings they are too young to manage. Emotionally immature parents, who were never taught how to regulate themselves, struggle to guide their children through pain they never healed from.

Jo Frost says it plainly: “If you are waiting for your child to change before you do then you are asking the youngest person in the room to lead.” Triumphant Parenting is aborting that cycle.

I learned to parent my child through trauma while reparenting myself from the same wound. Therapeutic parenting offered insight, but my breakthrough came through prayer, fasting, and finding God in the places no one else could reach.

God kept His promise: “When mother and father forsake you, I will lift you up.” Triumphant Parenting is that lift.

Not only my story but many stories mirror the tension in Woman Thou Art Loosed, where Loretta Devine’s character, Cassie Jordan, performs strength while ignoring her daughter’s pain. Cassie did what she knew. She carried her wound and expected her daughter to carry hers. She protected her survival strategy instead of her child. That image is the very opposite of what Triumphant Parenting calls us to confront.

Triumphant Parenting requires surrender to our Father before we attempt to require submission from our children. It is role modeling instead of behavior modifying. It is connecting before correcting. It is allowing God to uproot your programming, your patterns, and your plans.

It is showing up at softball games and Bible study. It is being present at performances and faithful among your chosen fellowship. It is being a responsible villager who provides equally yoked environments strong enough to counter worldly social influences. It is your holy responsibility to discern God’s vision for your children and guide them into alignment with their calling. It is growing in grace with them through every stage and nurturing them differently and consistently through each one.

Triumphant Parenting is also for families who do not know what to do. It is for parents who want a village to help them do it. It is for households seeking to strengthen their roots so their children can grow in stability, identity, and faith.

Across the sea, the pain is the same. In Africa, sisters shared the heartbreak of having their virginity stripped away, the societal shame that followed, and the emotional burden that is often ignored. No matter how far the ocean stretches, the wound travels with us and continues to pass itself down.

Triumphant Parenting is putting a stop to it.

It is the holy work of healing the parent so the child can thrive. It is choosing transformation over performance, presence over denial, and God’s truth over generational silence. It is the journey of finding God in the dark and allowing His light to lead your family into triumph.
